A Jesus Polaroid
The message today focuses on understanding reading the scriptures where Jesus and others assert that He is God, not just a man. My favorite verse from today's reading was Colossians 1:15-18... Every time I read this verse, I come away with more.
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
How much more important can a verse be? This is IT. Believing that scripture is the inspired word of God, this verse (and those like it that Spader points out) is a polaroid picture of all that Jesus is. The more you shake it around in your brain, the clearer the picture becomes. It's small and concise, yet attached to huge implications.
I think my favorite part of this verse is how you see that the past, present, and future. Jesus was from the beginning, and in Him all was created. Now, He holds all things together, without him all would crumble. He is the first born among the dead, so that He is supreme in all that is to come as well. Simply put, Jesus is IT.
